Cows

These are English shorthorn cows.     The Texas Longhorn  are of Spanish descent.  The shorthorn were used for milk in the colonial times.   They weigh about 1500 pounds each; I guess they used them to pull the plows too.   They are very sturdy cattle.

This picture was also taken in Williamsburg, Virginia.   I have been there a few time and had never seen this type of cattle before.  Or, maybe I just wasn't looking.Williamsburg 035

  1. Beautiful cattle. The yoke looks a little uncomfortable. I suppose they are used to it. Thanks for sharing hon! (Hugs)Indigo

  2. They look very sturdy. Being born on a farm I always figured a cow was a cow but do you know that is the first time I have seen a cow with a yoke on their neck. I never know what to expect when I see things pop up about your Journal. I love it. Lucy
