These are English shorthorn cows. The Texas Longhorn are of Spanish descent. The shorthorn were used for milk in the colonial times. They weigh about 1500 pounds each; I guess they used them to pull the plows too. They are very sturdy cattle.
This picture was also taken in Williamsburg, Virginia. I have been there a few time and had never seen this type of cattle before. Or, maybe I just wasn't looking.

ReplyDeleteThey look very sturdy. Being born on a farm I always figured a cow was a cow but do you know that is the first time I have seen a cow with a yoke on their neck. I never know what to expect when I see things pop up about your Journal. I love it. Lucy
