POST HALLOWEEN

Pictures is from the fern room at the Phipps Conservatory. I had tried to grown ferns, but they all turned brown and died...Chuck said he was going to send a flyer to all the plant stores in the area and tell them not to sell plants to this woman. LOL If they are REALLY, REALLY, hardy they will survive. Another problem is I had to get rid of some because Henry will eat them. I had a beautiful asparagus fern, that he jumped eight feel onto my bookshelf and ate parts of it. I found this out when he vomited bits of the plant. I read about all the plants dangerous to cats and do not have any. http://www.cfa.org/articles/plants-non-toxic.html
Halloween came and went. We live in a plan that was built in the late 50's and early 60's. WE bought our first house in 1972. This was 6 months after we married and could not stand living in an apartment any longer. The feeling was one of confinement and lack of space. We paid $21,500; and we still live there. They say a rule of thumb is that your house doubles in value every ten years. At that rate it should be worth about it should be selling for $320,000. But that is not the case, not even with the bursting of the housing bubble. House like mine are going somewhere between $90,000 and $120,ooo. The house is long paid off and I have no regrets on now moving upward in the housing madness. We did add on a family room, with a fire place.
Trick or Treating starts at 6 PM and ends at 8 PM. What I was amazed to see were the number of little kids with their parents. The parents are in the 20's and 30's. There were toddlers and preschool children all over the place. It was nice to see that not everyone are buying McMansions and there is affordable housing that these young marrieds can afford. Some years there are a lot of older teenagers with no costume and just a pillow case sack who come to the door, but not last night. The parents were with the children and someone even had a pumpkin costume on their dog. He did not get any candy.
I had candy left over and I told Chuck to take it to work. I also had small bags of pretzels which Emily said she would take to school for her snacks. Which is a healthy choice. I bought Reese's Peanut Butter Cups Heath Bars, Snickers and Pretzel Bags.
Emily had a good week at school, she pulled out an IV, work with a person in contact isolation. http://www.cdc.gov/ncidod/dhqp/gl_isolation_contact.html
And inserted a catheter for a sterile urine specimen. Emily also said some of the students said they had gotten a letter telling them if they did not bring up their grades they would be OUT; Emily's average in about 94, she said she just kept her mouth shut on that subject. She likes the profession and told me all the little old ladies like her. She is a likable person.
Tomorrow I am on my way to VA for my meeting. I plan to leave early and I like to stop every few hours for a leg stretching. I am taking my computer and most of the places have WIFI, so I will have the time and ability the post.

  1. I can not grow ferns either. They are a little messy when they shed but like you I like them. . Take care on your trip. Lucy

  2. how cute with the little ones coming trick or treating; they are always my favorite to see; as the kids get older they get a bit more cynical, don't you think? scrutinizing what is given as a treat, etc. But the little ones are so cute in their costumes. We were at our church's carnival so we didn't get any trick or treaters. I'm glad you enjoyed your evening with them.

that is interesting about home prices; I didn't realize that was the "formula" for them going up in prices. Here in So. Calif. when it is an inflated false market they will go up literally thousands of dollars by the minute; and that is why you have a million dollar house that is only a 4-bedroom, 3-bath 1800 square foot house. Ridiculous! (I refused to buy here because of that reason; prices are coming WAY down so we are considering)

I am amazed you are in that home since 1972; neat that it is made off (I married a vagabond, LOL,so we move A LOT)

I like how you break up the trip; we do the same thing. It is neat more places offer free internet or have it available

I'm not good with plants; I usually enjoy looking at others and their achievements in growing

    hae a good day

  3. Sounds like you had a good evening! I hope your trip is a safe one.

By the way, I'm not good with houseplants, either. I've got two that are surviving, a pothos and a philodendron, so those must be the hardiest plants in the world! LOL

  5. I have a brown thumb when it comes to any indoor plant, including the plastic ones. I think it stems from an asparagus fern my mother put in my bedroom when I went away to college. Every holiday, I would have to move the plant or it would try to get into bed with me.
